Description
Lovely calming olive green color stoneware bowl made from clay near the early kilns in operation in Thailand possibly between 14th and 15th. century. . There is a great deal written about early Thai ceramics in newsletters from Southeast Asian Ceramics museum 2013, 2014. This bowl and 2 plates were acquired in 1985 from an antique dealer in Chaing Mai after they were made available from Archaelogical discoveries. The color of this type of clay and the mention from the antique dealer in Thailand of Kulong as well as the flower in the well and leaf surround under the lip inside as well as particular designs , the finish under the clear top glaze is crackled but the top surface smooth . The ribs on the outside are incised before galzing These are all important characteristics to collectors but I have loved looking at this object and imagining that someone had learned the techniques from the Chinese and was trying hard to master his skill. The color is amazing
